Senate President Pro Tempore and Lt. Governor Joe Scarnati announced today the special election for the 11th Senatorial District previously held by Sen. Michael O'Pake will take place on March 15.
"With the passing of Sen. O'Pake, the citizens of the 11th District are without his committed, tireless representation, " Sen. Scarnati said. "Understanding the importance and demands of this position, I have scheduled a special election for March 15.
"In light of the many important and pressing issues facing the citizens of the Commonwealth, I felt it was necessary to fill this post as quickly as possible," Sen. Scarnati added. "This provides sufficient time for candidates to campaign and inform the citizens of this district of their qualifications and positions on the issues."
Under the Pennsylvania Constitution, the Lieutenant Governor is responsible for announcing the date of a special election.
