Gov.-elect Tom Corbett today named William F. Ward, 59, of Pittsburgh, as Chief of Staff.
Corbett said that Ward is a member of the Pittsburgh law firm, Ward McGough, LLC, where he has litigated many different types of civil and criminal cases, including federal and state grand jury investigations, criminal tax matters and white collar criminal cases.
From 1997 to 2003, Ward served as Chairman of the Board of Probation and Parole, where he oversaw more than 1,000 employees in 54 offices across the state. From 1996 to 1997, Ward was Corbett’s First Deputy Attorney General in the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office. He also served as an Assistant United States Attorney for seven years, and was Chief of the Economic Crimes Section.
Ward also serves as Solicitor for the Pittsburgh Citizen Police Review Board, has been a council member for three sections of the Allegheny County Bar Association and is past Chairman of the Federal Court Council.
“Bill Ward and I have been friends for more than 30 years. We served as Assistant United States Attorneys together in the early 1980s, and later, Bill was my First Deputy Attorney General,” Corbett said. “He is a skilled lawyer and a man of unquestioned integrity. Bill’s proven management skills as a prosecutor, agency head and private attorney make him well-suited for the position of Chief of Staff.”
Ward received his bachelor’s degree in history from the College of the Holy Cross and his J.D. from the Temple University School of Law.
Ward and his wife have been married for 27 years and have a son and a daughter.
