Pennsylvania State Police Major Scott Miller told the Senate Law and Justice Committee Tuesday there may be as many as 13,500 illegal video gaming machines at licensed liquor establishments in the state that bring in as much as $351 million a year for their owners.
He noted his estimate of 13,500 was “conservative” and said the number of illegal machines had been reported as high as 15,000 in the past. Each of the illegal machines generate from $100 to $1,000 of income per week.
Miller said the State Police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement seizes an average of 650 illegal machines a year. During a recent 4 week period, the State Police visited 890 licensees, of those 376 had 771 suspected illegal gambling machines.
Miller said illegal gambling machines have been found in clubs or catering clubs and a limited number of restaurants and hotels.
