Reading Area Community College President Dr. Anna Weitz Friday announced she will retire effective June 30, 2018.
At the time of her retirement, Weitz will have served eleven years as President of Reading Area Community College, beginning her tenure at RACC on June 1, 2007.
“While the Board accepted with regret Dr. Weitz’s decision to retire, she is unquestionably leaving RACC in an excellent position for future generations,” says RACC Board of Trustees Chair, Guido M. Pichini. “The nation is undergoing a fundamental shift in enrollment, public perception, and support of higher education. Anna has prevailed through this by steering a deliberate course characterized by strategic planning, execution and ongoing assessment all while emphasizing RACC’s focus on access and student success. She refined and enhanced the College’s organizational structure to maximize performance and accountability.”
Previously the President of Pennsylvania Highlands Community College for five years prior to RACC, Weitz was the fifth president in RACC’s history, succeeding Dr. Richard Kratz, who retired in May, 2007.
“When I retire next June, I will have had the privilege of serving this dynamic institution for eleven years. Looking back, I am grateful to the faculty and staff, and am proud to be a part of a group so dedicated to our College and especially to our students. Our collective focus on students and their success truly is our guidepost. The RACC of today embodies the power of providing opportunity for all who seek to improve their lives through education,” says Dr. Weitz.
The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees will act as the Search Committee to identify RACC’s next President. The College has engaged the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) to help manage the search.
ACCT is a non-profit educational organization of governing boards, representing more than 6,500 elected and appointed Trustees who govern over 1,200 community, technical, and junior colleges in the United States and beyond. They have a proven track record in recruiting community college leaders nationwide.
