Speaker Turzai Appoints Richard Jewell To Gaming Control Board

Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) announced Tuesday his appointment of Richard “Dick” Jewell, retired Grove City College president from Bethel Park, to the Gaming Control Board.
“Accountability and responsible growth of this industry requires strict oversight and the highest integrity to guide it,” said Speaker Turzai.  “Dick personifies these values and will be a tremendous fiscal steward of hard-earned taxpayer dollars.”
According to Speaker Turzai, Jewell’s extensive background in litigation, corporate law and forensic accounting are also import attributes he brings to his new role.
Jewell earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Grove City College before earning his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School.  He is a U.S. Army veteran.
“I am pleased to accept the speaker’s request that I serve my fellow Pennsylvania citizens in this significant regulatory role,” said Jewell.   “I look forward to working with my fellow commission colleagues in this important public sector area.”
By statute, the Gaming Control Board is made up of seven commissioners who are charged with overseeing the regulatory and legal framework of the gaming industry in the Commonwealth.  Turzai, as speaker of the House, is responsible for the appointment of one of the seven commissioners.
Jewell will succeed John McNally whose two-year term expired earlier this year.
