Speaker of the House Samuel H. Smith (R-Jefferson) Thursday announced special elections to fill the vacant 42nd legislative district House seat in Allegheny County and the 95th legislative district House seat in York County will be held in conjunction with the Primary Election on May 21.
The vacancy in the 42nd district was created by the resignation of former Rep. Matt Smith to become a state senator. The vacancy in the 95th district was created upon the resignation of former Rep. Eugene DePasquale to become the Commonwealth’s auditor general.
The 42nd district is located in Allegheny County, near Pittsburgh. The district includes all or parts of Mount Lebanon, Bethel Park, Scott Township and the boroughs of Green Tree, Rosslyn Farms and Thornburg.
The 95th district is located in York County and includes the following municipalities: North York, Spring Garden Township, a portion of West Manchester Township, West York, and York city.
Candidates for the office will be selected by a process designated by their respective political parties, and the winner of the special elections will take office after the results are certified.
