PA Treasury Receives Global Award For Financial Transparency Portal

State Treasurer Joe Torsella Monday announced the department recently received global recognition for its financial Transparency Portal, a first-in-the-nation tool that gives Pennsylvanians an unprecedented ability to look into the state’s books, including the ability to track the general fund balance in real time.
“It is an honor to win a CIO 100 award and to be recognized for our commitment to Pennsylvania taxpayers. Treasury is the first Pennsylvania state agency in over a decade to receive this honor,” said Torsella. “I’m proud of the innovation that we’ve brought to open the state’s checkbook, and that we were able to develop every aspect of the portal in-house without any added expense to taxpayers.”
Winners of the 2018 CIO 100 award were announced on Wednesday honoring 100 organizations worldwide for driving digital business growth through tech innovation.
For 31 years, the CIO 100 award has recognized organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operation and strategic excellence in information technology. The CIO 100 award is from the CIO division of IDG Communications, Inc.
This is the third award that the Transparency Portal has received. In December 2017, Torsella announced the acceptance of the Digital Edge 50 Award and the PA Excellence in Technology Award.
Both awards recognize innovative technology and digital transformations.
Treasurer Torsella unveiled the Treasury Transparency Portal in February of 2017, as part of his ongoing effort to bring greater transparency and accountability to state government.
Using the Treasury Transparency Portal, Pennsylvania taxpayers can track the past three years of Commonwealth expenditures by department, find information about the General Fund, and see Treasury Investment Pool balances – all in real time
