Attorney General-Elect Shapiro Launches Statewide Transition Meetings

Attorney General-Elect Josh Shapiro Friday announced “Setting the People’s Priorities,” a community-driven transition effort that will bring Shapiro to cities and towns across the Commonwealth over the coming weeks to hear the public’s concerns as he prepares to be sworn-in on January 17, 2017.
Shapiro will listen and learn about efforts from local law enforcement, consumer advocates, medical experts and members of the public across the Commonwealth.
The first session will be November 21 in Allentown at the Lehigh County Government Center, Public Hearing Room, 17 S. 7th Street, Allentown starting at 2:00 p.m.  The subject of the form will be the Lehigh Valley’s response to the heroin and opioid epidemic.
Also featured at the meeting will be: District Attorney Jim Martin-Lehigh County, District Attorney John Morganelli-Northampton County and District Attorney John Adams-Berks County.
Additional sessions will be held across the Commonwealth and announced shortly.
“To be the People’s Attorney General you need to listen and know what’s happening outside the halls of government, and that’s how I intend to do the job,” said Attorney General-Elect Josh Shapiro.
“We’re launching this new approach to a transition process to put the people’s priorities first, like the mom I met in Butler County being ripped off by a drug company to the men and women suffering from drug addiction in every community. With these community forums, I’ll hear the public’s concerns directly from Pennsylvanians just like I’ve been doing all year,” added Shapiro.
“Josh is a reformer, and these community forums show he’s not wasting any time,” said Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin. “This is a bold first step to build trust and help the people of the Commonwealth see that the real Attorney General’s office is here to be the people’s champion when there’s a tough fight.”
Current Attorney General Bruce Beemer announced the Office of Attorney General will attend the meetings.
“Ensuring a successful transition for Pennsylvania’s next Attorney General is a top priority of mine, and Attorney General-Elect Shapiro has made clear that includes empowering the public and bringing community concerns and lessons into the office. We’re proud to join at these forums to listen and learn,” said Beemer.
Josh Shapiro was elected Pennsylvania’s 6th elected Attorney General on November 8, 2016.
