PA Supreme Court Relieves Justice McCaffery Of All Responsibilities Pending Review

The PA Supreme Court issued an order late Monday relieving Justice Seamus McCaffery of all judicial and administrative responsibilities on an interim basis.  The Court also directed the  Judicial Conduct Board to make a determination within 30 days of whether there is probable cause to file formal misconduct charges against Justice McCaffery.
The Court order cited several reasons for its actions--
-- Justice McCaffery may have improperly contacted a Philadelphia traffic court official in connection with a traffic citation issued to his wife;
-- Justice McCaffery’s conduct involving the exchange of hundreds of sexually explicit emails with members of Office of Attorney General; and
-- A report submitted by Justice Eakin to the Judicial Conduct Board which asserted Justice McCaffery importuned him to urge the Chief Justice to retract a statement of his review of explicit emails from the Office of Attorney General.
Chief Justice Castille filed a concurring statement and Madame Justice Todd filed a dissenting statement.
